Seeing the Sublime

Seeing the Sublime

"Wonder is the unwilled willingness to meet what is utterly strange in what is most familiar. It is the willingness to step back and let things speak to us, a passive receptivity to let the things of the world present themselves in their own terms."  Eugene Fink
"When we are struck with wonder, our minds are suddenly cleared of the clutter of everyday concerns that otherwise constantly occupy us. We are confronted by the thing, the phenomenon in all of its strangeness and uniqueness. The wonder of that thing takes us in, and renders us momentarily speechless as when the mouth hangs open while being taken in by the wonder of something.”  Eugene Fink
To be "in wonder" requires us to move beyond ourselves, beyond our self-interest and our petty concerns, beyond our incessant need to control or predict the world.
To truly be in wonder we need to see the world through new eyes, to be open, and engaged.
We must see the world as a magical and mysterious place.
To feel awe in the presence of something much greater.
Wonder is worth seeking out, or making beauty that inspires it.
Wonder is a uniquely human disposition, and deeply meaningful.  The world, your world, should be wonderful!   Thanks for viewing.
